I started my blog on digital worlds (videogames and science)this spring and it's growing fast. but nothing compared to the traffic you have here, guys. The web trend map is great btw.

Not a bad parallel between Schwartz training and Server management:

Being a former GRE teacher at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions due to achieving a near perfect GRE score (such modesty! ;o)), I can say this authoritatively because recognizing parallel reasoning and parallel structures became second nature to me after teaching 1000s of parallel reasoning questions in reading comp, analogies, and logical reasoning.

Another black week at iA. The package I got from Joyent (I thought spending good money will lead to ease---no it doesn't!) requires a hardcore server crack to get this running.

As you can see server administration is not what we do. I slept an average of 4 hours/day. I had to put two tech sharks on the case now. This is the most depressing Internet experience in years. It cost us 1000s of users and iA's Google performance is in shambles.

The irony is that the day iA decided to leave Verio for Joyent is the same day Twitter decided to leave Joyent for Verio.

I would recommend http://www.hetzner.de or http://www.hetzner.co.za

Excellent in every respect. Hardworking Germans and South Africans. Precision where you need it. Good engineering and interfaces. Built to last. Going places.

Also, S3 from Amazon is brilliant for serving static files.

Verio IS nasty. No matter what Twitter does. But what I was expecting here: some info about MS/Yahoo today. No opinion, Oliver?

I agree http://www.dreamhost.com is pretty good in terms of interface, communication and customer service. Actually their newsletter is very iA’esque in style.

http://www.pair.com is not beautiful but it is user friendly and their service is solid.

I think you can tell a lot about a company from their interface. Although I’ve never measured it, after having played on 10s if not 100s of social media sites, you can usually tell whether a new site is going to be decent or not just from their top page. Doesn’t give MySpace a lot of hope :-)

It’s a shame I have no decent color sense or I’d choose some better colors for my web page. Will have to fix that a some point :-)

Another web host company to consider is Dreamhost. I’ve had them for about a year and a half. They are always very upfront about what’s going on, positives and negatives with their operation. See their award winning blog at, http://blog.dreamhost.com/.
