Pardon me for the late comment, but the first thing that came up in my head when I was reading this article was: WIKIPEDIA. I, for one, hardly ever click their navigation links to the left--all my surfing is done through the "related links" at the end or the inline hyperlinks within the article itself.

This has got to be one of my favorite iA notebook entries :) I admire the way it challenges the conventional structure.

Andrey,

Got me. I just recently changed my mind. 12px is still not bad. It's just suboptimal. I appreciate a precise reader.

A-ha! Catch ya!

Oliver Reichenstein: 12px is a pretty good choice.

I know it doesn't work because atm I'm to lazy to do something, it just contains a useless unintresting blog. But since the machine and software exists it will probably exist in a not to distant future, I hope :D

My website works for the moment but it's not intresting for you anyway :), I hope the broken url is ok, if not just remove it.

The problem with links in texts is that I don't belive newbies open them up in a background tab. I do but I don't expect everyone else to do that. And I'm affraid one lose them that way, but I don't know for sure.

Regarding text size I use a 17" quite old crt which I'm probably 80cm or so appart from.

I usually find it that websites got a little to small text imho, might be an issue with different browsers/os/fonts/dpi of screen.

Thanks for your critique. Always appreciated.

The links within a text are very useful, as this is how people usually get on. They click something within the text they are reading. I should actually improve on the linkage within my page, but I am too busy.

That the text size is too small is a surprising statement. 12px is a pretty good choice. Too big a text is dfficult to read as well. Of course I don't mind that you zoom the text up to whatever size you like. This is how I designed the page. But if you think my font is to small, you must be zoomig a lot. Or then it is your rare choice of browser (Opera - Mac or PC?) that renders the font in a funny way?

And yes, the text I have on the homepage is all I have for now. I don't have too much time to write. If I get more, I will ad an archive link in the footer and at the end of the page.

BTW: The link to your website didn't work, that is: I got to a blank page...

Intresting articles you have here, and I really like the design of the webpages. However I must say that I had opera zoom in the page at 140% here on my 17" 1280x1024 display. That might be because I use glasses which aren't perfectly clean, has a scratch and a not that sharp monitor, but also I think the default font on many pages are to small.

Anyway, the column design is perfect, the text length is perfect, the colors are perfect, the logotype is perfect.

I don't know if I really like the navigation thought, is the headings on the home page all there is to see? In that case I guess yes. But if it's not I'm missing a way to see everything you've got. The links at the bottom seems to rather link to services than more texts.

One more thing, I often tend to put in links inside the text blocks to different pages, as do you. But do people really step away from the current article to read them? Do you want people to do that? Wouldn't it be better to put those links at the end of each article? Like:

Read more about what I think about navigation.
Read another reference about the uselessness of navigation.

(preferable shorter lines as these misses the point and contains to much text.)

How important is the design?
Reference: Navigation is useless.

Are probably better. Anyway, very intresting stuff!
