One of the most vivid memories from my childhood is that of my father sitting in his house robe, almost every day earlier in the morning, reading. Recently, he asked me if there was an electronic "book" on the horizon. He has owned a hand-held computer for years, on which he has loaded many books, but is unsatisfied with the small screen. What he wants is a computer about the size of a typical book when folded, that opens like a book and can be held like a book for reading comfortably. At the time, this caused me to wonder what the market is for such a "book". I personally don't see the value of a split screen like opposite pages of a book, but it was interesting to me that my father, who will be 62 years old this year, is so keen on reading from a computer screen.

I'm in favour of society going paper-less. I tend to think society will embrace technology that allows them to comfortably do away with printed text. Nielsen was wrong about the timing, but I think in time the subject of his prediction, the paper-less society, will come to pass.

Your work gives me hope that reading on a screen will get better generally over time.

heh, it's "snubbing".

I think old shaky-jakey is right, we already have that electronic paper and soon "they" will find a way to make it in colour. Who knows, maybe even one day it might even be cheap and disposable after efficient.

Although, with colour electronic paper, one site I certainly wouldn't look at is Jackob's own "eye-burning" colour scheme.
