To be honest, an iPhone SHOULD have a music player or Apple will lose sales revenue making the iPod Touch dominate the iPhone

I think we don't enough techie for voice (in suffle). Nano is a great if its ipod. I think "long" / rectangle is always associated with a cell phone. How about a replacing nano and suffle with something in between.

I like the shuffle idea. Its great for older folks that want the new technology but don't know much on how to use it.

Absolute classic example of the fact people only see what they want to see, and on the internet, your users just do not pay attention to your content. I would be really intruiged to know the paths these users took to end up on this article. A very entertaining read!

You are completely right about 'users do not care about the technology. mixing email and sms is one solution, and would hopefully lead to the adoption of email on mobile. however, as commented, SMS is such a profit maker- 0.10GBP per 160 bytes of data here in the UK, is roughly the standard rate. so Operators realise that there is massive ARPU Here.

Not thinking about all those pesky constraints, my question would be- how does the system decide weather to send a new message as an SMS, or email? Would you give this task to the user? I would like to see the system handle it, especially for people like Mr. Fritz. this would take careful task and user analysis, and in depth design, something in my experience Handset makers find it difficult to commit development time to, which is why traditional mobile devices are quite superficial in this respect- where the User Interface & screen furniture is developed, but less thought is put into interaction design and UI archetecture - the type of activity required to solve such a problem as integreated email & SMS.
