Wow, that ad is super creepy. I had no idea the clown was talking to kids about healthy living. Isn't it ironic, don't you think.

Before you ask, I am not a fan of McDonalds. I have not eaten their fare in years and certainly do not intend to, at least for the foreseeable future. That said I do feel that your comments about the advertising in India is a little misunderstood. Yes, its manipulative, and it is destructive; but it is not creepy. Indian culture is vastly different from western culture and encompasses aspects of traditional face and body painting that may be strange to us but familiar to them. To their culture this image is most probably very appealing and not at all 'creepy'. I am not condoning McDonalds advertising in any way, but they are very astute; in actual fact, that is what makes them all the more dangerous. They understand these cultural differences and use it to great effect. We do not. Is it any wonder that they are getting away with what they do?

"If you’re real and promote what you have and what you have is good, your marketing works. Marketing is no longer a megaphone job." - I have a problem with this. You have been a victim of clever marketting. Marketting is still lies, it's just very subtle and clever lies. Same methods, new fashion. They make you feel like you're on the same side and it seems to have worked on you. People are very aware of image these days, so the most successful trick being used at the moment is to let the consumer feel like it was their idea to buy it. The fact that you've used Apple as an example of a "good global giant" prooves you're not thinking wide enough. You are in a box too because Apple are just as bad, if not worst than McDonalds in terms of social impact on freedom. Yes McDonalds makes you fat, but it doesn't then give you a false sense of health. Apple, on the other hand, sell you poor quality products at jacked up prices and instill their consumers with a false sense of originality and creativity.

They also launch ad campaigns comparing themselves (a brand) to PC (not a brand but a generic description). When "PC" don't appear to be fighting back (because there is no such brand as "PC" to fight back) the consumer assumes it must be true and buys an Apple. They rely on ignorance to sell machines. True key to successful computing, read a manual, look stuff up, learn how to use the tools, don't buy "user friendly" because "user friendly" just means "lots of options removed".

is ronald mcdonald's child really real? surely they need to make the type bigger and why is half of the baby absent? if it is part of mcdonald's propaganda they really need to employ some new designers! The business' reputation is laden with reports about their dodgy food, are they trying to freak us out further? i agree irony!

I don't entireley agree with Elise. Mc'Donalds food has a lot of carbs, sugars and fats, and I'm sure that if you did work out a lot, you would be able to burn them off.... the only thing is that there isn't enough food to fill you up for the amount of fats that each food item is worth. Therefore, people need to eat more to get fuller. The more they work out, they hungrier they get. It's a vicious cycle.

And I was terrified of clowns long before I ever saw IT.

I dont really think it was such a bad idea sending Ronald into schools. For one, not every child percives him as scairy some children like clowns not everyone was exposed to the movie IT at a young age and recieved some sort of phobia from it. Blame your parents for that one. Secondly its not as though McDonalds has never shown intrest in giving back to the comunities ever heard of RMCC? When they sent Ronald to schools it wasnt to tell the children mcdonalds was healthy it was to teach them about balance and moderation. Because in fact in moderation McDonalds CAN BE part of a balanced diet. McDonalds cant be given all the blame for societies binge eating and lazyness. Get off your pc go play a sport work up a sweat youll burn off that bigmac you love so much in no time ;)

right on the button, mate, right on the button!!
i couldnt agree more that Ronald McMoron going into schools to preach about healthy living to kids is the hight of corporate arrogance, hypocrisy and some absolutely grotesque stupidity.
i grew up in one of the former soviet states and now live in New Zealand. Here McDonalds (and other junk outlets) are mostly located in poor socio economic areas where people don't have much money and education to know better than eating this crap. There are hardly any of those restaurants in reasonably wealthy areas where people seem to be just a little more astute about (not) putting this shit in their bodies. some schools here in NZ have also banned all these sugar laden drinks allowing only water on school grounds. i think the governments are waking up to the massive child obesity epidemic, but so slowly...

keep up the good work, it's refreshing to read :)
