Nigel, Oliver:

You clearly both have good, valid points.

Yes, it's true that the West's political systems are for the most part bloated and corrupt. It's true that most politicians are beholden to their respective industry cohorts. It's true that almost no politician could commit or implement massive change, even if they wanted to do so.

However, it's also true that whoever's occupying the top spot, especially in a country such as the US, which has a powerful executive, does make a difference. Sometimes a big difference.

Just think about this for an example. If we'd had Al Gore for the past eight years, instead of Bush, would the US have invaded Iraq? Clearly, no. And just that one decision alone has had a massive impact around the world.

I often struggle getting people to look at politics with optimism. This article was great for doing just that. I voted for my candidate and I'm satisfied with my vote because I've done a lot of research over the last couple months and found a politician I can identify with.

The slogan is 'change', the same slogan politicians have enticed worn down citizens with for the last half a century. I always try to urge people to look at more than what the politicians say on the campaign trail, and what they've said throughout their development as politicians. Look at their voting history and personal philosophy. Who do they get their inspiration from? Because those things will determine what they really believe.

Get out and vote!

Na na.

I disagree. The first thing the world can do to break free of American colonialism is to stop looking at their political news and look at their own. Be activists in our own place of residence. That's what matters.

Look, Americans elected a stupid warmongering team, and they fucked it all up for themselves. Now with a recession looming in around two quarters, they can not really start another war to bail out the economy. I hope Chinese consumers bail us out this time. Do you know Mandarin? Have clues about Chinese communist parties politics?

Forget that Italiano. I see you guys are re-electing Burluskoni (as they would say that in Punjabi). Forza Italia :-)

Cheerio. Lets control our own idiots (India has shit loads of them all over the place) and then worry about the US president. Representative democracy rocks. I can't choose the Indian Prime Minister, but I choose the guy who can choose him. And then I stay patient.

@Nigel: You are not really interested in what I intend to say, but more interested in arguing. That's kind of boring, isn't it? I think I made a good point about sincerity. That one can only judge sincerity from what people do, and have done. And Obama is consistent in that belonging. Why don't you react to that part instead of trying to insult me on my own channel? (You already acknowledged that Obama is the best candidate--so why not vote for him?). Of course it's futile to argue with cynics, because they don't stand for anything but their own narcissism. How is that for a plan:

Oliver,

Still nothing concrete, nothing rational. Still nothing that answers my question - What strategy has Captain Future offered us that will enable him to change one of the largest, most entrenched, most corrupt bureaucracies the world has ever seen.

Captain Future is more believable...

Now there's something concrete. Here's something equally concrete: "Captain Future is a big fake." Note also that this isn't about Hillary, it's about the ability of Captain Future to overcome a Denigrated Bureaucracy.

"2. Captain Future is, given his professional career, more believable when it comes to equal distribution of richness."

Ignoring the discussion of whether wealth distribution is a just and equitable goal, to say that he "is more believable" still isn't a concrete policy stance, is it? It's like saying he should be president because he looks better in blue than Hillary does. It's as maybe, but not germane to what sort of "change" he can effect against the western world's largest, most corrupt institution.

"3. Captain Future is more believable than any other candidate when it comes to his sincereness to want to end wars and install stability."

Awwwww... He's sincere! How sweet!

Seriously? He's more believable than Ron Paul is or Kucinich was about pulling the troops out - esp. given that he's a mainstream candidate?

"4. Captain future is more believeable(sic) as a head of state than any other candidate, just simply because he is obvisously(sic) more eloquent and more intelligent as Mac and Mitt combined."

Either just come out and say you want a better speaking, better looking president regardless of policy, or present evidence of significant difference in policy direction that would constitute "change". I'm not asking you to be Republican or Democrat, I'm just asking you to be intelligent and rational rather than silly (vote for him because he's a sincere, good looking guy).

"5. Last but not least Captain Future also runs a smarter cooler campaign than the others."

Oh, well, then by all means.. Wait, screw Obama, let's elect Antonio Banderas. He's pretty smart and cool. Or maybe Moby. Then the State of the Union would have a better soundtrack. Or we could elect Harrison Ford, then we'd have Han Solo AND Indiana Jones as President. That would be way cool!

@Andrea: Imagine: Roberto Benigni for President. I don't want to get too nationally political here (this post is an exception), but someone should put up a website and start a campaign with that exact program. Benigni for President. He would take the country like a Tsunami.

@Oliver
Beppe Grillo is only a web Phenomenon and he's supported by blogger and all "normal" people but not by STRONG POWERS!
Beppe is under attack by ALL-THE-OTHER-MEDIA like newspaper, TV, ecc. and he doesn't want to begin a political expercience.
I'm 24 yrs old and I'm so frustrated because we have more than 20 political parties and we don't have a people able to represent the Italian people like me!
In Italy we need help: can we rent Obama for 10 years? We have not honest people in this country!
